Tel Aviv - November 2020
By Ross Belfer
After several failed scheduling attempts, I finally made my way into the studio of Israeli designer Adir Shimon Yakobi. Wedged in the south side of Tel Aviv’s Florentine district, a gritty area robust with a symbiotically endless drilling construction, industrial warehouses and fabricators, Adir’s studio is a world of its own.
While his design assistants and French bulldog gnawed away at the tasks at hand, Adir and I offered me an espresso and waxed lyrical about his world of design, and varying influences from recycled junk, vintages finds and extraterrestrial forms that lead to furniture, light pieces, one-off sculptures and other forms of objet d’art.
Balancing between more commercial projects and otherworldly objects, Adir lives without fear. Our mutual love of punk and hardcore music led to a wonderful afternoon that was both short and sweet.
